Kings Cross Station, Magic and Muggles can only mean
one thing, Platform 9/3 Quarters. WAIT! Muggles? Yes that’s right Muggles, a
very long cue of Muggles so if you are a young Witch or Wizard, we’re afraid
you will have to wait to get to the platform unless you have a cloak of
invisibility handy, in which case you can go straight through.
So for those of you who don’t know what Platform 9 3/4 is, you must be the Muggleiest Muggle there is, (no offence). Platform 9 3/4 is a secret platform in
Kings Cross Station London, it’s a secret as Muggles (non-Witches and Wizards)
are not supposed to know about anything to do with magic (the cue suggests
otherwise).
What can you do at the Platform? You can try and get
onto the Platform by pushing a trolley full of items that you will need to go
to Hogwarts, like a white owl and some suitcases. If you don’t make it through
the wall onto the Platform, then we’re sorry but you must be a muggle, but at
least you can get a professional photograph to remember the occasion that costs
just under ten quid, so it’s hardly going to break Gringotts. If that’s not
your style then you can always take your own photos.
So what props can you use for a photograph? You can
choose to wear one of the Hogwarts Houses Scarfs, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw,
Hufflepuff and Slytherin. The staff at the platform encourage you to take the
scarf of the house that you truly are and not just take Gryffindor because
that’s the house the famous Harry Potter belongs to. You can also choose from a range of wands
which include Hermione Granger’s and Professor Snape’s. As an added plus, if
you feel up to it, you can dawn the Harry Potter spectacles, so the Platform
has an excellent range of props that you can use to make your photograph extra
special. Plus you can have as many people as you like in the photo, so if your
young ones are making their first trip to Hogwarts you can remember this
momentous occasion with a family photograph or if you are too cool for this,
you can always get a photo by yourself.
What are the staff like? The staff are brilliant and
encourage you to be as silly as you want with your photos, this is as they want
what is best for you rather than a picture of you standing holding the trolley.
They are loud and talk to everyone in the cue creating an exciting atmosphere.
Due to the nature of this, cue times can be long and so Witches, Wizards and
Muggles are encouraged to keep hydrated. You can always try and go at quieter times
such as in term time/ working hours, but hey it’s London, is it ever really
quiet?
There is also a Platform 9 3/4 shop where you
can buy a school uniform, wands, a Marauder's Map (if you feel up
to no good), Chocolate Frogs (if you feel like collecting wizard cards) and
basically anything that you can think of that involves magic. However the shop
is quite small and so can get crowded, also you may need to empty your account
at Gringotts to buy all you need (you have been warned).
Overall, Platform 9 3/4 is a must for all
Witches, Wizards, and all Muggles that have heard of Harry Potter and it is
sure not to disappoint. So what are you waiting for #GoingtoHogwarts
